Service Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) Relationship

The Service SETA has agreed to support the launch of a professional body for management in South Africa with an international affiliation to support international recognition, which would include a pilot with 500 Service SETA members, who are involved in junior and middle management functions, to become members and apply for professional certification with abeSA.  This enrolment would be in accordance with the Criteria for Membership and the Rules for Certification. Both membership and certification will follow the normal abeSA criteria.  Each applicant would be considered based upon individual merit i.e. background, qualifications and managerial experience.

The project will roll out in the following way:

1.    Identification of pilot group

2.    Application of individuals for both membership whereby the ABE application documentation is completed and certification by fulfilling the evidence requirements as per the Portfolio of Management Experience (POME)

3.    Certification Process

4.    Interviewing of applicants by Fellow members

5.    Confirmation of eligibility and level of membership

6.    Certification of each applicant at the appropriate level

7.    Development of a Continuous Professional Development Plan (CPDP®), in conjunction with the Services SETA and various employers, for each accepted member and certified manager. Implementation hereof to take place only upon further approved budgets and awarded training agreements.
